Eye Examinations
Why should you have regular eye examinations?
Regular eye examinations ensure you have the best of clear, comfortable vision for your work, recreation and lifestyle needs.
Early detection of cataract, glaucoma and retinal degeneration can save you from losing your sight. These are common conditions which may not be noticed until well advanced. Diabetes and other systemic diseases can have their earliest changes inside the eye. Regular examinations will find them, often before more serious symptoms develop.
It is our commitment at Thompson, Larter, Lee & Associates to have the best trained optometrists and optical dispensers, the best diagnostic equipment and the widest range of quality eyewear on which to base our guarantee of satisfaction. Our staff regularly attend continuing education seminars, often as lecturers, and have, or are studying for, qualifications beyond their basic degree.
Only a thorough examination by a professionally committed Optometrist and the attention of a fully qualified Optical Dispenser, after a complete analysis of your visual needs, will ensure that the advice you get will be in your best interests.
Our experienced team can turn a basic prescription into an eyewear solution which will give you the very best of visual comfort and efficiency. A pair of readymades from the Service Station will let you see the street directory but will rarely have the correct focus and balance for long periods of close or critical work.
Specialised Equipment
At Thompson, Larter, Lee & Associates, we have a range of specialised equipment to help us take good care of your eye health and visual function.
Retinal Camera
Our digital camera allows us to take a photograph of the inside of the back of the eye, without having to necessarily use a drug to enlarge the pupil. This ensures that we have a high quality, permanent record of the appearance of the internal eye thereby allowing us to monitor for any changes in eye health including: glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetes, high blood pressure, melanoma etc.
Topographer
Our topographer enables us to take a detailed topographical map of the cornea, the front surface of the eye. This ensures more accurate prescription of contact lenses, and higher precision in the measurement of conical cornea (keratoconus). Orthokeratology (see link), is more precise when using a topographer.
Medmont Field Analyser
Computerised measurement of visual fields aids in the management of glaucoma and in monitoring the extent and quality of your peripheral (side) vision. Good peripheral vision is crucial for driving, sport and general navigation.
Medmont C100 Colour Vision Test
This device helps in the identification of protan colour vision defects which may impair the ability to differentiate reds and greens.
Visagraph
The Visagraph is an eye movement recording system with software that makes it easy to evaluate reading skill while reading for comprehension. This equipment gives us a greater understanding of a person's visual efficiency during the task of reading.
